I was looking for a way to make the Brown-eyed Susan Cookies look more like actual flowers, and experimented with a little daisy cookie cutter. The results are very flower-like! If you would like to try this, use the same Brown-eyed Susan Cookie recipe (given in a previous post), but increase the sugar from three tablespoons to 1/4 cup. Dip the cookie cutter into flour before pressing it lightly into the ball of cookie dough. Instead of using the cocoa frosting use Hershey’s Mini Kisses for the centers. Press a Mini Kiss into each cookie right after baking–if pressed in before, the tip of the Mini Kiss burns.
The cookie cutter I used is from Wilton, and is from a set called “Daisy Cut-Outs,” and is actually made to cut out rolled fondant. There are three in the set, and I used the middle size (2″). I did some hunting on Amazon.com and found sets for sale for about $2.50. But you could also experiment with any small flower cookie cutter.
I almost hate to suggest this, but if you want to go all out, mix an egg yolk with a little bit of water, and using a clean paint brush, paint each petal before baking. This is for when the garden club is coming over!
