Avian Visitors

Birds can be quite mysterious creatures, and for the past week or so I saw hardly a bird at our feeders, except for an occasional female house finch. But over the weekend we had a sudden explosion of bird visitors, mainly finches, but, as you will see, also some unexpected visitors.

The feeder was swinging back and forth, and the house finch held on tightly.IMG_6305

I was delighted to see the female cardinal, with her crest feathers grown back in.IMG_6306

A house finch makes a landing . . . or is he taking off? Not sure.IMG_6307

It always amazes me how sweet and expressive the goldfinches are.

I think this is male, whose plumage is fading with the coming of fall.IMG_6293

Still a beautiful bird, even with faded feathers.IMG_6295

Almost forgot this female red-bellied woodpecker.
